I've been quietly following the case of Lendzi Lakeman, and one aspect I haven't seen discussed much is the role of neighbors in situations like this. From what's reported, the homes on Carlow Avenue are pretty close to one another—it's one of those neighborhoods where folks know each other's routines, and kids play in the streets. It's so unsettling to think that the sounds of a violent conflict broke the day-to-day peace there. Imagine being one of those neighbors who heard the gunshots. The feeling of helplessness must have been overwhelming, knowing something terrible was happening but not being able to intervene in time. I hope they find comfort and support to process what they experienced. It's a cruel reminder of how domestic issues can escalate to such a tragic end, sometimes without warning signs visible to outsiders. I'm sending thoughts to Lendzi's family and those neighbors who are, no doubt, grappling with feelings of guilt and sorrow for what happened in their community. Let’s be kind to ourselves and vigilant in offering support to those who might need it before something like this happens again.
