I've been thinking a lot about the impact this tragedy has had on the younger students in Waynesboro. My heart goes out to Kennarius’s family, but also to all the kids who were caught in the school lockdown that day. It's terrifying to consider how something so violent could occur in their community, and then for them to be directly affected, even if indirectly, is just so unsettling. In situations like this, how do we support our children and reassure them of their safety? It seems vital to address these events openly, but I worry about how much to share without fostering fear. I hope that as a community, conversations are being had in schools to help kids process what happened. If anyone has experience with school responses after such incidents, how have they navigated these discussions with young people? It’s important we learn from this and do the best we can to support and protect our children.
