Hey all,
I've been diving deep into the case of Deputy Juan Ortiz's murder from '78, and one detail that's really stood out to me is how despite receiving multiple threats, he chose to continue working on his ranch. It says a lot about his character and dedication to his life and family. It's genuinely baffling and concerning how someone could be so brazen as to murder him in cold blood while he was out working on his own land, right next to his wife. I've been scanning old reports and there were hoof prints found, but it's frustrating how those leads seemed to go cold. It makes me wonder if those tracks were maybe misinterpreted or if the assailants used them to throw off investigators.
I can't help but feel for his wife, who had to witness such a tragic event. It must have been terrifying. The fact that this happened over 40 years ago and there's still no closure for his family is really sad. I'm puzzled how a community could hold so many secrets for so long. Does anyone else think there might be more to these threats that we don’t know? Would love to hear your thoughts or any info that might still be out there.
Does anyone else find it eerie how whoever shot Deputy Ortiz managed to avoid leaving any substantial evidence behind? It really makes you wonder just how calculated this murder was. I can't imagine the fear Deputy Ortiz must have felt after those threats, and yet he continued to work at his ranch with such bravery. The fact that hoof prints and other signs just vanished into thin air... it's like the shooter vanished into the landscape. My heart goes out to his family, they've been seeking closure for so many years. It’s frustrating that justice hasn’t been served, and I’ve always hoped new technology or a fresh perspective might bring some answers to this cold case. There’s got to be someone out there who knows more about what happened that day.
