I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact Thomas Mello had on our local music scene here in Long Beach. It’s really sad and frustrating to know that someone who played such a big role in bringing people together through music was taken from us so senselessly. I’ve read that he was often seen helping others, and that generosity clearly extended to the moments leading up to his death. I didn’t know him personally, but I remember seeing him at several gigs, always with a welcoming smile and his trusty bass guitar. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone who was not only talented but also a pillar of the community. I can’t imagine what his family and friends are going through right now. The benefit performances they’re planning in his honor should be a strong testament to how much he meant to so many. It’s a small comfort to see the community coming together in the wake of such a tragedy, but I hope it brings his loved ones some peace. Has anyone come across details about when those benefits will be happening? I’d love to attend and support his memory.
