Has anyone else looked into how the city almost paved over the burial site on the West Mesa? It's chilling to think how close we came to never discovering what happened to Syllannia and the other victims. The fact that the 2008 housing crash halted development just in time is almost eerie.
I wonder if there are clues in those old planning documents or satellite images that could have been overlooked. Maybe there's something in the proposed construction plans or the pattern of disturbed soil that could point detectives in the right direction. It's tough to imagine the pain Syllannia's family has gone through not having answers all these years, but every little detail might help bring some justice for her and the others. Thoughts?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the eerie coincidences surrounding the West Mesa case. Something that stands out to me is how close Albuquerque came to missing those graves entirely. If the housing market hadn’t collapsed in 2008, who knows if we would have ever discovered Syllannia Edwards and the others? It’s chilling to think that developers could have paved right over them, leaving the families with even less hope of ever knowing what happened to their loved ones. It’s a stark reminder of how fleeting and fragile justice can be.
It’s also heartbreaking to imagine the fear Syllannia must have felt. Just 15, far from home, and in a situation where she was so vulnerable. She deserved so much better than to be an “outlier” in her own tragic story. It makes me wish more people were aware back then, and that someone had stepped in. My heart goes out to her family—I can’t even begin to fathom their pain.
I hold onto hope that justice will prevail and that the reward will bring forward some new leads. After all these years, it’s time for Syllannia and the others to have their stories more fully told and for those responsible to be held accountable. If anyone out there knows anything, no matter how small, please come forward. These women deserve so much more than to be forgotten, and their families deserve answers.
