On June 27, 1977, 19-year-old Robert Mullins, a white male gas station attendant from Barrington, New Jersey, was working alone at the Citgo Service Station on the northbound side of Interstate 295/Route 130 in West Deptford Township when he was attacked in the station office. Mullins was later found shot and beaten to death in the small room where he kept the station’s records and cash drawer; the combination of gunshot wounds and severe blunt-force trauma prompted an intensive homicide investigation at the scene.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office treated the killing as a priority and still lists the case among its unsolved homicides, naming the Citgo at the highway location and urging anyone with information to contact investigators. Does anyone remember unusual activity at that Citgo or have information about Robert Mullins’s last shift that could help the investigation?
