I’ve been thinking a lot about the community response to the tragic deaths of Onika Miner and her mother, Linda. Living in a small town like Pray, it hits everyone really hard when something so devastating happens among people we know or see around. What’s really keeping me up is how this kind of despair can exist so close to home and sometimes go unnoticed. The family’s fundraiser and their decision to speak about what happened with such openness is incredibly brave. It’s a reminder of how important mental health awareness and support systems are, especially for families. I hope this tragedy encourages more conversations about mental health in our community and that we all strive to be more aware of the struggles our friends or neighbors might be quietly facing. My heart goes out to anyone who knew them and is feeling this loss deeply.
