Was anyone else struck by the symbolism of the Basilica of St. Mary being the place where Melissa Hortman’s funeral Mass was held? It's such a historically significant site, and it seems fitting that someone as impactful as Melissa was honored there. The fact that it brought together so many state leaders—people from all sides of the political spectrum—speaks volumes about the reach she had and the bridges she was able to build throughout her career. I can only imagine how comforting it must have been for her children to see the city stand with them in such a powerful show of solidarity. In such dark times, it's moments like these that remind us of the resilience and unity in our communities. Sending thoughts and prayers to her family and everyone else impacted by these tragic events.
