I’ve been following DeAngelo Miles’ case and just keep thinking about how quickly things went from celebration to tragedy for him and his loved ones. It’s deeply unsettling to think that just hours before, DeAngelo was likely envisioning his future, talking about his plans in the Navy and summer work. What strikes me most is the way his community and school obviously saw him as a beacon of promise. The fact that someone set up an ambush for something as trivial as designer sneakers is just gut-wrenching. The details emerging in court are chilling, especially the part where surveillance showed the Dodge Durango arriving, and those text exchanges setting up the whole encounter. It’s unimaginable to process how someone’s life could unravel over a pair of shoes deemed more valuable than an entire future. Just want to express my condolences to his family and friends. He deserved so much more than this cold, violent act. Amidst all these legal proceeds, I hope there’s space for the community to remember him for the leader and friend he was, not just the victim of such senseless violence.
