In light of everything that's come to the surface, I've been thinking a lot about the security measures in place at locations like the old Pāʻia Sugar Mill. It makes me wonder if there were any previous incidents reported there before that fateful night. It's tough not to question whether more could have been done to secure the area, especially given the dangerous outcome that unfolded. I'm no expert, but it seems like a location with prior disturbances might warrant additional protective measures.
I can't help but grieve for Suzanne O and her loved ones. She was clearly an extraordinary person and public servant. Her commitment and bravery should never be forgotten. It deeply saddens me to see yet another officer lose their life in the line of duty. It's a sobering reminder of the risks officers take every day to keep communities safe. I hope the trial brings justice, and more importantly, I hope that something can be learned from this tragic event to prevent such losses in the future. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time.
