Has anyone else been following the emotional testimonies shared by the friends of Josiah Divodi-Lessa from Blue Oak Elementary? Seeing his classmates, even at such a young age, cope with this loss is truly moving. They’ve put up a little memory corner at the school with Josiah's favorite toys and pictures, and the accounts from his teachers and classmates about his kind spirit and infectious smile really bring home the enormity of what the community has lost. It breaks my heart to think of a child so full of life having that stolen away. The stories about how much Josiah loved playing soccer and helping his friends just stick with you. It’s a vivid reminder of the impact that senseless violence has, not just on victims and their families, but on entire communities. Sending support and love to all those affected.
I’ve been thinking about the beautiful tribute page for Josiah that his classmates and teachers from Blue Oak Elementary put together. It's touching to see how much he meant to everyone around him, and it paints a picture of a sweet, young soul who was loved deeply. Seeing his friends, even as young as they are, expressing their confusion and sorrow is truly moving. The school seems to be handling this tragic loss with a great sense of community, offering support to students and staff who are grappling with the harsh reality of losing a friend so suddenly.
It's so important for the mental health of young students to hold space where they can express their emotions safely. Does anyone know if the school or community is offering ongoing grief counseling or group support sessions for these kids and their families? If nothing else, the strength of this close-knit community will hopefully bring some comfort during such a difficult time. My thoughts continue to be with all who are mourning.
