I keep thinking about Desray Norene Guess's role in all of this. It's hard not to wonder why someone would risk so much to hinder an investigation like that. Was she really trying to protect Austin Lee Warren, or was she just caught up in something way beyond her understanding? Often in these cases, we get so focused on the suspect and the victim that we overlook the people on the periphery who also make impactful decisions. I can't help but imagine the ripple effects—even the people not directly involved with James "Tall Folks" Matthew Charles are facing serious life changes now. It's a reminder of how far-reaching the consequences of a violent act can be. I hope everyone, including Desray, gets the support they need as they navigate this difficult chapter. Keeping James's family and friends in my thoughts.
