The victims of the Waukesha parade tragedy, especially Virginia “Ginny” Sorenson, have been on my mind a lot, particularly in light of the community role she played. I’ve been reflecting on how someone at 79, with back and hip issues, would still be out there, leading and loving every moment. It’s inspiring but so deeply saddening that a life filled with that much dedication and light could be taken away so abruptly.
I didn’t personally know Ginny, but as a long-time follower of the holiday parade, I remember always seeing the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies with such admiration. To imagine that she stepped up to carry the banner, filling in for her granddaughters, says volumes about her spirit. For those who did know her, I can only imagine the immense void her absence leaves.
My thoughts are with her family, the Dancing Grannies, and everyone affected. It's these individual stories of those we’ve lost that truly underscore the tragic depth of what happened that day.
It's been almost two years since that devastating incident at the Waukesha parade, and I still can't stop thinking about Ginny Sorenson and her beautiful spirit. Even though I never met her personally, just hearing about her passion and commitment to the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies makes it obvious she was someone who brought joy to everyone around her.
What really gets me is how selfless she was—going above and beyond to help out, even with her own health challenges. I recently read that she decided to carry the parade banner because her grandchildren, who usually did it, couldn't make it that day. I find it both admirable and profoundly sad. Her husband shared how much she loved dance, despite her back and hip troubles, and it just breaks my heart that such a vibrant life was cut short in such a sudden and senseless way.
To those who knew her, and have shared their memories and stories—thank you. Your words keep her spirit alive and remind us all about the love and light she brought into the world. Sending thoughts of comfort and support to her family and all the families affected by this tragedy. ?️?
