Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the aftermath for the survivors of such awful tragedies, and Lelan “Joe” Brookins often comes to mind when discussing the Fort Lauderdale beach shooting. Although he survived the initial attack, he spent the rest of his life grappling with the physical and emotional scars until he passed in 2006. It's easy for us to focus on the immediate tragedy, but the long-term struggles faced by survivors like Joe show just how deep the ripples of these violent acts can go. Can you imagine living with those memories and injuries? It must have taken incredible strength for Joe to keep going. I hope that in discussing these aspects, we can remember not just the trauma but also the enduring spirit of those affected. Wishing peace to their families and all who were touched by this incident.
