I’ve been following the tragic case of Carol Ott and can’t stop thinking about the terror she and her fiancé, Corky, must have felt on that awful night. It's so hard to comprehend the magnitude of fear and chaos that Joseph Harris inflicted on her household. Carol seemed like such a strong woman, having managed to rise to a supervisor position at the postal service despite the harassment she experienced. It's enraging to learn that she once reported Harris but chose not to pursue charges—perhaps out of a desire to move past the negativity or in fear of retaliation. It's so distressing to know that by trying to keep the peace, she became a target of unimaginable violence. My thoughts are with her loved ones and those of the other victims. It's cases like these that remind us how important it is to take threats seriously and ensure support systems are in place for those facing harassment. It’s just so tragic that the system wasn’t able to protect them in time.
