I’ve been reflecting a lot on the bravery of Officer Irma Ruiz in this terrible tragedy. It’s unimaginable the courage it must have taken to face such a threat head-on, especially knowing that a school full of children was just steps away. Her actions undoubtedly saved more lives that day, and her sacrifice should be remembered and honored. It’s important to support and show appreciation for our officers who put themselves in harm's way to protect the community. My heart goes out to her family and all the families affected by this senseless violence. Anyone else have memories of Officer Ruiz or that tragic day they'd like to share?

I’ve been researching the victims of the 1988 shooting spree in Chicago, and the more I learn, the harder it is to comprehend such senseless violence. I feel particularly moved by the story of Robert Quinn, the young employee at Comet Auto Parts who was just starting out in life at 26. I can't help but wonder how his life might have unfolded had it not been cut tragically short. It's devastating to think about the loved ones he left behind and how this random act of violence has forever altered their lives. It’s a chilling reminder of how quickly things can change. My heart goes out to the Quinn family and all the families affected. Times like these remind us to appreciate the moments we have with those we love.
