I can't stop thinking about how much Maite's passion for marine biology reminds me of the boundless dreams kids have at that age. She was so young and yet had a clear vision of her future, wanting to explore and protect our oceans. It breaks my heart to know that her potential will never be realized. It's haunting to imagine what she could have contributed to the world. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's scholarship in her name is a beautiful way to keep her dream alive and inspire others, but it's also a stark reminder of the opportunities stolen from her. I hope we can learn from this tragedy and prioritize meaningful change. Sending all my love to her family and friends during this time of unimaginable pain. Let’s keep honoring Maite by supporting aspiring young scientists with the same passion she had.
