Just thinking about how the courage of those two individuals in Alhambra might have saved so many lives. It’s devastating, though, to think of the loss that's already occurred at the Star Ballroom. Mymy Nhan seemed like such a kind soul—imagine what she must have meant to those who knew her. Being a regular at the dance studio, it sounds like she was a beloved part of that community, bringing light wherever she went.
Her story especially paints a picture of someone who found joy in dancing, even after experiencing the personal loss of her mother. It's tragic her life ended in the exact place she found so much happiness. Knowing that her life was cut short as she left the very celebration that she attended to start anew... there aren't words. Deepest sympathies go out to Mymy's family and friends, and everyone else affected by this senseless act.
I've been following the Monterey Park tragedy closely, and the loss of Mymy Nhan has really touched me. I read that she went to the Star Ballroom Dance Studio to celebrate the Lunar New Year—a time that's supposed to be about joy and new beginnings. It's devastating to think she had just lost her mom three weeks prior and was trying to step into the new year with hope. I think of her family and the immense grief they must be feeling, losing not only a mother but now also such a cherished relative, friend, and community member.
Dancing was more than just a hobby for Mymy — it was a part of her essence. When I think of the courage and joy it takes for someone to keep moving forward after suffering a personal loss, it makes her story even more poignant. Her role as a cheerleader for her family, always bringing positivity, is such a touching testament to her character. It's just heartbreakingly unfair that her life was cut short in such a senseless act of violence.
For everyone in our community, this brings a heavier weight to the new year. It's a stark reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to hold our loved ones close. My heart goes out to all of Mymy’s family and friends, and to the other victims and their families dealing with this unspeakable loss. Let’s keep sharing stories about the joy these individuals brought into the world, bearing witness to their lives in a way that this tragedy cannot overshadow.
