I recently stumbled upon the case of Hazel Connof, and what struck me was the way her murder seemed to just slip through the cracks for so long. It’s such a tragedy that her family had to live in uncertainty for years, not knowing who took her life or why. Hazel was only 23 and had so much life ahead of her. It's painful to think about the fear she must have felt.
The frustrating thing is how the justice system worked back then. Carl Watts, despite his horrific actions and known pattern, managed to evade justice for so long. It’s unsettling to think there was no closure at the time for Hazel's family. They were left with an open wound while Watts navigated his deadly path unchecked for a while.
I really hope Hazel’s loved ones found some sense of peace, knowing what eventually came to light. It’s important we remember these victims not just as names in case files, but as beloved individuals whose lives were unjustly cut short. Here's hoping things have improved in the way serial crimes are investigated and prosecuted now.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact of the police investigations during the era when Carl “Coral” Eugene Watts was active. It’s really striking how so many cases, like Hazel Connof’s tragic murder, went unsolved for years until his arrest and confessions. I can't help but wonder about the resources available to the police back then and how understaffed or under-equipped they might've been when dealing with a serial killer moving across state lines.
Hazel’s case wasn't connected to Watts immediately, and I think that reflects a larger issue in law enforcement at the time. The lack of technology and communication meant crucial connections between cases could go unnoticed far too easily. It's so unfortunate her family didn't see justice promptly. While it's some relief that there was eventually a confession, it still doesn’t ease the pain for those who knew and loved her.
Anyone have any thoughts on how modern investigative methods might have changed the outcome of these cases? Would love to hear your perspectives or any similar cases you've followed where modern technology made a difference.
Stay safe, everyone ?
