Hey everyone, I recently came across Essie Margarette Hiett’s missing person case from 1978, and something struck me about her car being found just a mile from her home. How does a vehicle end up wrecked in a ditch so close to where she lived, yet seems like there's no substantial evidence or clues to where she went? It’s like she vanished into thin air after some kind of incident in the car. I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts on whether there might have been a struggle or if Essie tried to make it home on foot after the accident. The fact that her personal belongings were scattered adds to the mystery. Anyone from the Oroville area remember hearing about this growing up? Would love any new perspectives or theories about what could have happened back then.
I’ve been reading up on Essie Margarette Hiett’s case and something that really puzzles me is why her belongings were scattered near her wrecked car. If it was an accidental crash, wouldn’t most of her stuff still be inside the vehicle? The fact that her clothes and personal items were outside the car seems odd. Was it staged to look like an accident or was there a struggle at the scene? It feels like this detail might hold a key piece of the puzzle. Can anyone shed light on the standard procedures for investigating scenes like this back in the '70s? Perhaps there's something crucial that was overlooked.
