I was reading about Ethel Sokoloff's case again today, and something that really stuck with me was the detail about the bedding being pulled over her face. This wasn't just a violent act; it was an attempt to dehumanize and erase her identity, which makes the crime feel even more chilling. It's such a contrast to the image we have of Ethel—she was vibrant, someone who was just living her life, and then this happened. It's unsettling to think there was a time when elderly women living alone were being targeted so systematically. The community must have been terrified, and it's a relief that a monster like Thomas is finally off the streets. I can’t even begin to imagine the fear Ethel faced, but I hope her family has found some peace knowing justice is being served. How did people in the Mid-Wilshire area cope during those years? It’s a part of history that feels both far away and hauntingly close.
