I’ve been thinking a lot about Rae Ann Schneider’s case and her struggles with epilepsy. Living with a condition like that must have been incredibly challenging, and it adds another layer of tragedy to her story. She moved to a new town and started working at Steak and Shake, trying to carve out a life for herself and navigate the world independently, despite these challenges. It's so important to remember who Rae Ann was—"Birdie" to her friends and family—and the strength she showed in seeking her own path.
I feel for her family, especially knowing that her medication was important for her wellbeing. That must have been terrifying for them when she went missing. It’s hard to imagine the worry they felt, compounded by the fact that missing person's investigations weren't as immediate back then as they might be today. Rae Ann’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and vigilance in our communities. Anyone else have thoughts on this or know more about support networks back then for young people dealing with epilepsy?
