Has anyone else been struck by the way Regina Bonnanno and the other victims of the Miami Strangler were targeted in their own homes? It's terrifying to think about how vulnerable they must have felt. Regina, in particular, given her disabilities, seemed like such an easy target, and yet that’s probably why she was chosen. I can't help but feel immense sadness for her and all the victims who were robbed of a safe space. It's frustrating that the killer seemed to know they could get away without leaving enough evidence to be caught. Calvin Jones Jr. appears to have been a possible lead, but it seems like such an oversight to have let him slip through the cracks if he was indeed connected. Does anyone think there might have been more suspects never publicly named?
I've been thinking a lot about Regina Bonnanno's tragic death and the impact it must have had on her community, especially among those who knew and loved her. As a deaf and mute woman in the 1970s, Regina faced unique challenges, and it's devastating to think about how these may have made her even more vulnerable to the Miami Strangler.
From what I've read, Regina was well-liked in her community. I wonder what kind of support systems were in place for her and others in the deaf community at that time. It breaks my heart to think of someone like her, who already had to navigate a world with significant barriers, being targeted and met with such horrific violence.
What always puzzles me, too, is why the killer chose Regina and how he gained access to her home. Was it random, or did he somehow know about her physical vulnerabilities? And what does that say about the killer's method? It makes me think that he was somehow able to identify his victims' unique circumstances, exploiting them in the most horrendous ways.
This case really highlights the need for more awareness and protection for vulnerable populations. Even decades later, Regina's story should be a reminder that we need to do everything we can to protect and support those who might be at greater risk. I just hope that one day her family and the loved ones of all the victims will see justice for these horrific crimes.
