I've been following the Anthony Sowell case closely, and something about Leshanda Long's story truly struck a chord with me. It's deeply troubling how her disappearance seemed to slip through the cracks and wasn't even reported at the time. Leshanda faced more than her share of challenges, but that should never have made her invisible to the system or the community. It’s haunting to think about how she wasn’t missed right away, and I can’t help but feel there's a lesson here about the value we place on certain lives over others. The fact that she wasn’t reported missing makes me think about how many others might have been ignored or overlooked. While it's good that Sowell was eventually caught, it's hard to ignore that something systemic needs to change. We need to be proactive in protecting those who might not have a strong support system or who might be marginalized. To everyone who knew Leshanda, her family or friends, my thoughts go out to you. Her story should never have been forgotten or sidelined, and I hope her memory will inspire real change.
