I was revisiting the details of the Wayne Schubert case, and I can't get out of my head how chillingly casual Harold Smith was when he reportedly showed Wayne's body to his girlfriend. It's such a terrifying glimpse into his mindset. How could someone be so devoid of empathy? I think about Wayne's family and the unimaginable horror they faced, knowing their loved one's last moments were treated with such coldness. It raises so many questions about what drives people to commit such atrocities and how those around them could possibly ignore the signs. It's a sobering reminder of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface, and my heart goes out to those who have been touched by such violence.
