Hey everyone, I recently came across the tragic story of Collette Marie Goodenough and Barbara Ann Wilcox while digging into some colder cases. It's hard to shake the thought of how easily trust can be manipulated, especially by someone like Gerard John Schaefer, who was supposed to serve and protect.
What's shocking is how the system failed these young women. We're talking about a law enforcement officer using his badge to gain their trust. It's chilling to think how many lives he may have affected under the guise of authority. What makes me sad is realizing these girls were likely just starting their journey out in the world, seeking adventure and independence, only to be met with such a grim fate.
I find it incredibly important to honor their memory by spreading awareness about how crucial it is to question authority when something feels off. It serves as a chilling reminder that evil can sometimes wear a friendly face.
My thoughts are with Collette and Barbara's families, who had to endure not only the tragic loss but the betrayal of a system they would have depended on for justice. I hope they found some kind of peace knowing he was put away and that maybe, just maybe, their story helps prevent future tragedies.
