I’ve been doing some reading on the tragic case of Dzeneta "Janet" and Amela Pasanbegovic, and it’s really stuck with me. I can’t stop thinking about the challenges they must have faced after fleeing Bosnia and resettling in a completely new country, hoping for safety and a fresh start. It's devastating how they ended up encountering such evil. I think about their family back in Bosnia and what it must feel like for them, dealing with not just the loss but the uncertainty surrounding it all. Knowing that the person responsible has admitted to such atrocities but seeing him avoid further consequences just because of legal technicalities must be so hard to come to terms with. This case highlights not only the horrors of Runge's actions but also our need for better support systems for refugees. These young women deserved so much better, and even though official justice might not have been served in the traditional sense, we should continue to remember them and push for stronger protections for vulnerable communities. My heart goes out to their family and all who knew and loved them.
