On July 11, 1983, the partially clothed body of 41-year-old Linda Toni Lansen was found near the dead end of Old Memorial Highway in the Town ’n’ Country area of Hillsborough County, Florida. A jogger discovered her; an autopsy showed she had been sexually assaulted and shot four times in the head. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Linda had left her apartment near Sligh Avenue and Rowlett Park Drive in Tampa the day before and did not return. Her car was later found abandoned near Manhattan Avenue and I-275, and her purse was recovered by the side of a road in Clearwater. She had been working as a freelance photographer and recently taken a job as the official photographer for Playboy’s Bunny of the Year contest; her daughter was staying with Linda’s ex-husband the weekend she disappeared.
The case remained unsolved for decades, with investigators noting similarities to another female homicide in the area that summer. Does anyone have information about Linda’s movements in Tampa around July 10–11, 1983, or about the abandoned car and purse locations?
