Lisa Yates' story is one of many that haunt the true crime community. While much focus has been on the horrors Gary Ridgway perpetrated, I want to take a moment to reflect on Lisa's life and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. People often forget that she was just 19, stepping into adulthood under challenging circumstances. Imagine facing the harsh realities of life at such a tender age. She may have been involved in sex work, but that doesn't define her or diminish her worth. Her story and the delay in reporting her missing highlights how society often overlooks vulnerable individuals. It’s chilling to think how Lisa walked the same streets countless times, possibly feeling invisible despite the dangers lurking. It breaks my heart to think of the fear and uncertainty she might have experienced before her tragic end. Today, we remember Lisa for more than just her tragic connection to the Green River Killer. She was a daughter, a sister, and a person who deserved so much more. My thoughts go out to her sister and family, who were left grappling with the void her absence created for nearly two decades. This case is a sobering reminder of the importance of valuing every life and ensuring everyone’s safety.
