I just can't stop thinking about how Alexandria Nicole Ison's case sheds light on the bigger issue of how vulnerable young people on the streets can be. She was only 17, struggling with addiction and doing whatever was necessary to survive. It’s just so troubling that her life ended in such a violent way, along with Lilla Moler and Stephanie Russell, in places where they should have found at least some semblance of safety—like Forest Park, even if they were living on the streets.
I think it's important we focus on the conditions that put young women like Alexandria in such dangerous situations. Each of their stories speaks volumes about the failures in our system to protect those who are most at risk. It’s worrying that someone like Todd Alan Reed could roam free, preying on those who were just trying to survive another day. While his conviction might have brought some closure, it can't erase the immense loss felt by their families and all those who cared about them.
What do you all think can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future? It seems there needs to be more support and resources to aid those dealing with addiction and homelessness, especially for young people who might feel they have nowhere else to turn.
