I've been following the tragic case of James Gallop for a while now, and something that really sticks with me is the sheer vulnerability he must have felt while staying at Dorothea Puente’s boarding house. Recovering from such significant surgeries and facing ongoing health issues, he must have believed he was in a place of care and respite. It's incredibly upsetting to think that someone would exploit his condition for such nefarious purposes. The part that gets to me the most is how Puente manipulated the situation with his doctors, claiming he went to Los Angeles. It’s chilling how she inserted herself into his medical affairs, further isolating him from the help he so desperately needed. It really makes you wonder if more oversight in situations like this could prevent such tragedies. My heart truly goes out to Gallop's family and friends, knowing that he tragically vanished under the guise of assistance and vanished for such a long time before his fate was discovered. I hope discussing these cases continues to bring attention to vulnerabilities that patients with medical conditions face, and maybe help prevent similar situations in the future.
