I was reading about the events surrounding Jun Gao's murder, and I can't stop thinking about the stolen firearm used in the crime. It's unsettling how easily something like that can escalate into such tragedy. How did it get stolen from the deputy's vehicle in the first place? I would have expected more secure protocols regarding firearm storage, especially for law enforcement officers, but this situation seemed to slip through the cracks.
It's devastating that this lapse led to such an impactful event, affecting so many lives. My heart goes out to Jun Gao's family and all the other families impacted by Peoples' spree. It's hard enough to process a loved one's loss without knowing that a perfectly avoidable oversight enabled it. I'm wondering if there were any changes made to firearm security policies in response to this tragedy, or if we're doomed to see similar incidents repeat. Does anyone have more information on whether this prompted some sort of policy change or not?
