I recently came across the story of David Allan Oliker and his friends, and it's just so deeply unsettling. I'm curious if anyone knows more about the community's reaction back then, especially since Santa Cruz was already rattled by multiple serial killers during that time. I read that the park where these tragic events happened was a popular spot for local families and young adults. It must have been terrifying to feel that such a serene place could harbor such danger overnight. Does anyone have family stories or local news clippings from back then that discuss how people processed such unprecedented violence in their own backyard? It's hard to imagine what the families of David and the other victims went through, and I sincerely hope the community was able to rally around them somehow. It’s bewildering to think of such a contrast—the tranquility of those redwoods and the horror that unfolded beneath them.
