I've been following the case of Dorothy Smith and others during the so-called "Odessa Lust Killings," and one detail really stands out to me—the method used in Dorothy's murder. Unlike others confessed by Johnny Meadows, Dorothy was shot, not strangled. It's haunting to think about what this might imply.
We often assume confessions bring clarity, but in this case, it feels like the questions only multiply. If Johnny was truly the perpetrator, why did he deviate from his usual method? And if he wasn't, who else could have been involved? It's terrifying to think that someone could have been out there, eluding justice while Meadows took the fall.
This must be incredibly difficult for Dorothy's family and friends, knowing that the moment of closure they deserve seems so elusive. It’s sad to imagine what they must've endured over the years, especially with the shadow of doubt cast over the confession. Another unanswered chapter among many during that turbulent time in West Texas.
Has anyone else looked into the connection between Johnny Meadows and Dorothy Smith through Delores? I'm trying to piece together how well Meadows might have known Dorothy before the murder. Given that Delores worked at the motel, it's feasible that Meadows could have been around the area or familiar with the layout, right? But then again, it makes you wonder why he chose to target Dorothy specifically, considering his confessions were all over the place. I can't help but feel for Dorothy's family. It must be incredibly difficult not just to lose someone in such a horrible way, but also to have so much uncertainty about who truly was responsible. This aspect of the case feels unresolved to me, even after all these years. Does anyone have more insight into the dynamics between Delores, Meadows, and Dorothy?
