Does anyone else struggle with the lack of attention Betty Stewart's case received at the time? Reading about her and the other young women, it seems like there was so much fear in the community, yet little national media coverage or wider public outcry. These crimes were clearly terrifying, and the lives lost—Betty, Diane, Talita, Monique, and Beverly—were so precious. It hurts to think that they weren't given the level of attention they deserved. The fact that these victims were African American women really makes me reflect on whether systemic issues contributed to that lack of exposure and urgency. Thankfully, modern forensic science eventually brought their killer to justice, but I can't help but wonder how much sooner things might have been resolved if the spotlight was turned on these heartbreaking events back then. My heart goes out to the families who had to endure years of not knowing whether justice would be served.
