Hayden Lee Holt, a 20-year-old man from San Antonio, was shot and killed on the evening of February 23, 2025, in Selma, Texas, during what police described as a botched robbery attempt. The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the 16000 block of Retama Crown. According to affidavits, Holt had traveled to Selma with a group that included three 17-year-olds who allegedly planned to rob an 18-year-old seller of a firearm. A confrontation escalated into a shootout with more than 30 rounds fired; Holt, who was in a vehicle and did not appear to be armed, was fatally struck. Two others were injured but survived.

Investigators arrested the three 17-year-olds shortly after the shooting and charged them initially with capital murder; a grand jury in May 2025 returned first-degree murder indictments against Roberto Monreal, Dorian Camarillo, and Eric Sepeda, reduced from the earlier charges. Joseph Harris, the 18-year-old seller who fled the scene, was placed on the Texas DPS 10 Most Wanted list, later captured, and had the capital murder charge against him rejected by the Bexar County District Attorney; a grand jury later indicted him for evading arrest. Holt’s parents, Joanna and Carlos Holt, describe their son as non-violent and say they believe he was in the wrong place with the wrong people.

Are there readers who knew Hayden or who were in the area that evening and can share what they remember?
