I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the senselessness of Edward Daquan Smith's death. It's hard to see someone so young, with a bright future and family, become another statistic of gun violence. I didn't know him personally, but hearing how dedicated he was to his service and his family is really touching. He was just at the start of his life, married with two young sons who will now grow up without him. It breaks my heart. It's concerning how a simple altercation at a gathering could escalate to such a tragic end. This makes me wonder how conflicts in social settings can get out of hand so quickly. Why do people feel the need to resort to guns? What happened to settling disputes with words instead? My thoughts are with Smith's family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. I hope they get the support and justice they need. It's a reminder to cherish our loved ones and work toward a society where incidents like this become a thing of the past.

I was reading about this case and can't stop thinking about the implications for both of their families. Edward Daquan Smith seemed like a dedicated soldier and family man, and it's truly devastating to think about the loss his wife and sons must be feeling right now. Being stationed far from home is tough enough, and it sounds like Edward was trying to make the best of his situation. It's really unfair that what should’ve been a night for camaraderie turned so tragic. How his kids will grow up without their father is something that weighs heavily on the heart. And then there's Specialist Mathis. I’m not excusing anything, but it’s a reminder of how one night can alter so many lives forever. I hope both families somehow find peace and that the justice system works toward a fair resolution of this matter. This should never have happened.
