In the early morning hours of January 12, 2025, 26-year-old Uriel Caspan Miller was shot and killed while driving a Ford Crown Victoria on Interstate 40 East in Nashville. Officers found his car stopped against the concrete median; Miller had a single gunshot wound to his shoulder. The front passenger window was shot out and there was a bullet defect in the rear driver’s side window. A firearm was recovered from the driver’s side door of Miller’s vehicle.

Dash cam footage from a tractor-trailer showed a Honda Odyssey minivan closely following Miller’s car, then changing lanes to pull alongside before shots were fired. Images from that video led to a tip pointing investigators toward 43-year-old Randy Brooks II. Detectives located a 2005 Honda Odyssey at Brooks’ home that matched the van in the footage. Investigators say Brooks apparently mistook Miller’s car for another vehicle and opened fire on the wrong driver.

Brooks was arrested and charged with criminal homicide and held on $500,000 bond. He was also sentenced to eight years in prison for a probation violation. A preliminary hearing on the homicide charge has been held; Miller’s family is awaiting whether Brooks will be indicted. Did anyone in Nashville see that Honda Odyssey or notice activity on I-40 that morning?
