I’ve been following the case of Jett Brummett and Arturo Degollado and wanted to talk about community impacts. It’s incredibly disheartening to see how these tragedies ripple through the community. Being from Tulsa myself, I know how tight-knit some neighborhoods can be, and hearing about the shooting at the apartment complex has really sent shockwaves through everyone I know. It’s not just about the lives lost or the injured survivors—it's also about families questioning safety in a place that’s supposed to feel like home. The vigil at First Baptist Church showed just how much Jett was loved, and the service for Arturo in Broken Arrow had similar sentiments. Both families are obviously devastated, but the whole community is feeling this loss. Conversations about ramping up safety measures in apartment buildings have begun, which I hope results in real change and prevents tragedies like this from happening again. My heart is with both families and the two teens who survived the attack. I hope our city can come together to support them during this time.
