It’s truly devastating to think about the insecurity Adelita must have felt in her own home before this tragic incident. The fact that Darlene had previously been accused of threats and assaults just adds another layer of tragedy. I can’t help but wonder about the system that allowed those charges to be dropped previously. How many cries for help must go unheard before something changes? My heart goes out to Adelita’s sons, Nicholas and Joshua. I hope they find strength in the community’s support during such a difficult time. It’s imperative that we shine a light on these stories to push for stronger protective measures and meaningful interventions for those living in fear at home.
