I can't stop thinking about the circumstances around Tahiry Broom's case and how it reflects a much larger issue we should be addressing. Her life was tragically cut short, and it really makes me reflect on how transgender people, especially women of color, continue to face disproportionate levels of violence. It's comforting to see her family and friends coming forward to share how vibrant and joyful she was. Those personal stories display how much of a light she was in their lives. I'm hopeful that the court not only seeks justice for Tahiry but also considers the broader implications of this case. It feels critical to push for hate crime charges if evidence supports it—it could send a strong message against such targeted violence. With Robert Ridges III's arrest, I'm interested in understanding more about the relationship, if any, between him and Tahiry before this tragic ending. Was this an isolated incident, or are there signs of premeditated targeting? My heart goes out to those who loved Tahiry and to the entire community fighting every day for change and safety.
