I’ve been thinking a lot about how Susan Morse was such a fixture in our community. It's so hard to comprehend how something so horrible could happen to someone so beloved and accomplished. Susan’s talent as a Raku artist was truly exceptional; her works brought so much beauty into our world, and her generosity in sharing her knowledge and passion was something I always admired. I walked by her house a few times and could often hear the laughter and conversation from one of her gatherings—she brought people together, and she made everyone feel welcome. My heart goes out to her friends and family, especially given the circumstances with Aaron. It’s tough to process such a tragedy, particularly when it feels like someone who should have been her protector was involved. I hope the community finds a way to honor Susan’s memory and that justice runs its course. Sending all my love to those affected.

The pottery community in Phoenix has lost a luminous spirit in Susan Kay Morse. I have been following her work for years, and it saddens me deeply to think about her tragic end. Her raku pieces were truly one of a kind; they held such an intense beauty and soul. From what I gather, her son Aaron had moved in with her after the passing of her husband—I can’t imagine the pain both must have been experiencing. The stresses of day-to-day life combined with grief can bring about unpredictabilities that no one can foresee. This just feels like a tragic culmination of emotions rather than a premeditated act of violence. Susan’s impact on the art world and her community was significant—her gatherings were known to be the heartbeat of the block, full of laughter and shared creativity. I think it's important we remember her for that legacy. Sending love and strength to all who knew her.
