I've been thinking a lot about the neighbors, Teresa and John Santos, who were the first to discover Dorothy Lang after the attack. It must have been incredibly traumatic for them to find her in such a state. I can't imagine the shock and fear they felt hearing those sounds from upstairs and then discovering their friend and neighbor. It's a reminder of how these horrific events ripple out and affect so many people, not just the immediate families of the victims. I hope the Santos family found some peace and support after going through such an ordeal. It really highlights how crucial a sense of community is, and how we must look out for one another, especially for those who are most vulnerable. Did anyone come across interviews or statements from them in later years about their experience or how they coped with such a difficult event?

I recently read about Dorothy Lang's tragic case, and it really got me thinking about our responsibility as neighbors and community members. It's so tragic that Teresa and John Santos, who lived right below Dorothy, had to experience the horror of discovering her after hearing the unsettling noises. The courage it must have taken to check on her, despite their fears, is commendable. It's a reminder of the importance of being aware and involved with those around us, especially when it comes to the safety of our elderly neighbors who may be living alone. Living in a time where community ties seem to be weakening, this case underlines just how crucial it is to look out for one another. I know it's not easy to intervene or even notice every potential red flag, but I wonder if communities today could implement more proactive measures to protect their most vulnerable members. My heart goes out to everyone involved and affected by these horrible crimes. It's heartbreaking to know such violence occurred, but the bravery of the Santos couple should remind us all of the difference we can make by looking out for our neighbors.
