I've been going down the rabbit hole of the Orville Lynn Majors case and can't get over the impact he had on the Vermillion County Hospital community. In particular, when I think about Elnora Breneman and the other patients who lost their lives, it really brings home how vulnerable people are when they’re in a hospital setting, often trusting the staff with their lives. The fact that there was such a dramatic increase in deaths at the hospital between 1993 and 1995 is chilling. It’s staggering to imagine what families like Elnora's went through, not knowing the true circumstances at the time of her passing. Patients and their families put so much trust in the medical professionals tasked with their care, and to have that trust so horrifically betrayed is just beyond words. It's a reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in healthcare, not just for the patients but also for their loved ones who depend on the truth. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this tragedy.
