On the morning of November 6, 2001, Dorothy Harris, 62, owner of the Hair Gallery in Florence, Montana, was found murdered near the salon’s back entrance after returning from a bank errand in Stevensville. Two others were killed inside the salon: employee Brenda Patch, 44, and customer Cynthia Paulus, 71; all three victims had their throats slit. A customer arriving about 11 a.m. discovered the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing an oddly dressed man near the salon shortly before the bodies were found, wearing a dark suit, a duster jacket, and either a top hat or a fedora; despite sketches and searches he was never identified. Nothing of value was taken from the salon and no clear motive emerged.
Arrests of Brian W. Weber and Lincoln Benavides were made in April 2008 on murder charges tied to drug-trafficking, but those charges were dismissed in 2010 after prosecutors cited lack of evidence, a key witness death, and credibility problems with another witness; new evidence also challenged the timeline placing Weber in Florence. The case remains unsolved. Know anything that could help investigators?
