I’ve been thinking a lot about the police work involved in capturing Anthony Joe LaRette Jr. Considering everything, it's pretty astonishing that he initially managed to evade capture for so many years. I can’t imagine the frustration and determination of the investigators at the time. It’s easy to forget that back in the 70s and 80s, they didn't have the technology we rely on today. The fact that they were able to connect LaRette to so many crimes across different states truly speaks to their dedication. My heart aches for Jeanette "Mickey" Wade and all the victims whose lives were cut short, but I hope knowing LaRette was finally caught and couldn’t harm anyone again offers some peace to their families. It must have been an incredible relief when he was finally brought to justice, even though it took far too long.
I've been reading up on the Mickey Wade case, and I can't help but think about the impact it must have had on her friends and family. The fact that this happened right in her own home, a place that's supposed to be safe, is just beyond terrifying. The sense of violation and fear her loved ones must have felt is unimaginable. I wonder how you begin to process something like this, knowing the perpetrator was on the loose for so many years. It's chilling to think about LaRette's evasion tactics—even hitchhiking out of the city to escape capture. It’s such a stark reminder of the injustices families have endured while waiting for answers. My thoughts are with all of those who knew and loved Mickey. ?
