I’ve been reading up on the case of Vivian Geanett Thompson and can’t help but think about her children, Maurice and Latoya. It’s incredibly sad that they met with such a terrible fate, caught in the chaos of that horrible night. Both so young and just starting their lives. Every time I think about how Maurice and Vivian’s bodies fused together from the fire, it just breaks my spirit. I can’t begin to imagine what the family went through, knowing they lost such innocent souls in such a horrific manner. It baffled me when I first learned that Robert Charles Ladd was released so early due to mandatory parole laws. After committing such a violent crime, how was the system so lenient, allowing him the freedom to later take another life? I understand laws were different back then, but the repeated tragedies highlight the need for reform. It’s just devastating knowing that two families are left living in the aftermath, grappling with what could’ve been had things gone differently. Sending strength and peace to both Vivian’s and Vicki Ann Garner’s loved ones.
