Has anyone else been thinking about the role of parole in Kirkland's case? I keep coming back to the fact that he was released on parole in 2004, only to commit these unspeakable crimes a few years later. It’s incredibly unsettling. I wonder if there were red flags that were missed or if the system just didn't have the resources to monitor him effectively. It breaks my heart for Esme and her family, knowing that maybe, just maybe, something could have been done differently. I mean, how do we protect our communities if a person with such a violent past manages to slip through the cracks? So frustrating and definitely something that needs more attention and reform, in my opinion. Would love to know what others think about this aspect of the case.
