I’ve been doing some deep dives into the tragic case of Aiko Koo and stumbled upon an aspect that doesn’t seem to get enough attention. A lot of the focus is, understandably, on how Edmund Kemper got away with so much for so long. But I think it’s important to remember who Aiko was beyond her encounter with Kemper.
Aiko was just 15, with a promising future ahead of her as a dancer. Her dreams of pursuing Korean folk dance were so close to coming true. This is a stark reminder of all the lives that were just beginning, full of potential that we’ll never see realized. It's incredibly sad to think how her family and friends had to cope with such a devastating loss, especially when so little of her was left to lay to rest.
For those of us revisiting this case, while it's crucial to understand how a predator like Kemper was able to commit these atrocities, it's just as important to keep the memory of his victims alive. Remembering their aspirations and lives, not just their tragic ends, is one way we can honor them. Has anyone come across more about her life and interests that shed light on who she was?
