Does anyone else find it incredibly eerie how quickly the town seemed to fall into chaos after Milton Johnson was released? It's unsettling to think that someone could harbor so much violence and unleash it so soon after gaining freedom. The summer of '83 must have been terrifying for Joliet residents, especially when the news broke about the brutal attack at The Greenware by Merry. Four women, tied up and viciously murdered, and all the while people were left wondering who could be responsible. I can't imagine how the police must have felt trying to catch up with such a dangerous individual while the entire community was on edge. How did the authorities even begin to track Johnson down? It's frightening to think of how close he came to slipping through the cracks again. Sending my thoughts to the families of Marilyn, Barbara, Anna, and Pamela during what I'm sure was an unimaginably dark time. This case reminded so many of us just how fragile our sense of safety can be.
